What is the Essay for?

The purpose of the new SAT Essay is to assess your ability to analyze an author’s argument. To write a strong essay, you will need to focus on how the author uses evidence, reasoning, and other rhetorical techniques to build an argument and make it convincing.

The ACT Essay is intended to resemble a college assignment, and it can highlight your student’s writing and analytical skills in their college admissions applications. Unlike the other four sections, the ACT Essay is optional. The ACT Essay is always the last section of the tests.

You should complete the essay section at least once, and if you wish to improve your score, take it again.
